Newlyweds spend their honeymoon falling even more in love when a local feral cat steals both of their hearts

Most people come home from their honeymoon with souvenirs. These newlyweds came home with a cat.

In April, the couple arrived at their Airbnb in Aruba and found a little cat waiting on the patio. She pawed at one of their legs during dinner, so they tossed her some sausage. The poor thing ate so desperately that they immediately brought her fresh water and a plate of food. Yeah, there was no ignoring her after that.

Over the next few days, she kept coming back whenever they were outside. They secretly named her Luna, after "luna de miel," Spanish for honeymoon. Even when they tried to stop feeding the neighborhood cats at their hosts' request, seeing them drinking pool water quickly ended that plan. Luna even tracked them down at the kitchen window to request breakfast. Girl knew exactly who to ask.

They learned nobody owned her and couldn't find her on local lost-pet pages. Luna was also extremely skinny with a little belly, making them suspect she might be pregnant.

Eventually, they took her to a vet, telling themselves they were just getting her some care. Famous last words.

Luna was indeed pregnant and had ear mites. After talking with the vet about the dangers street cats faced on the island, the couple realized they couldn't leave her behind. Her husband, who never thought he'd love a cat, finally said, "I guess we're doing this."

And they did.

Four and a half months later, Luna is living in the US and completely obsessed with her new family. She cuddles, sleeps with them every night, greets them with headbutts, plays with countless toys, learns tricks, and even enjoys adventures in her backpack. Her formerly cat-skeptical dad is completely smitten too.

  • Talk about a pretty special wedding gift from the Cat Distribution System! These two went to Aruba expecting a honeymoon and somehow came home with a brand-new furry family member. We’re pretty sure Luna wasn’t on the registry, but she turned out to be a much better gift anyway. Of all the places and all the patios she could have wandered onto, she picked theirs.   • Rescuing a cat is a pretty good way to win their love forever. Luna clearly remembers exactly who gave her food, fresh water, and eventually a safe home when she needed it most. Now she follows her hoomans around, greets them when they come home, and makes sure they get plenty of cuddles. After everything they did for her, it seems like Luna decided she’s going to spend the rest of her life returning the favor with as much love as possible.

  • Forget magnets, T-shirts, and all the usual vacation souvenirs. Luna was definitely the best thing these two could have brought home from Aruba. Their honeymoon may have only lasted a little while, but their unexpected souvenir came with a lifetime of cuddles, headbutts, and furry companionship.
